- Hamilton Ontario’s Piper Hayes makes music to express the joys and the challenges of life. Her presence onstage is natural and inviting, their voice powerful and dynamic. She is a story weaver, a risk taker, an advocate for mental health, social justice and strives to continuously disrupt the violence of colonial capitalism. Piper’s performances dip and swing easily from vulnerable to joyous while maintaining an authenticity that audiences find unforgettable. They are a Hamilton Arts Award Creator nominee as a solo artist/educator and as her duo Piper & Carson. She is also a two time nominee of the Ontario Arts Council's Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award in 2016/2017 and professor at Centennial College where they teach a holistic somatic approach to vocal expression, performance and song. In 2021 she was hired on as co-director of Hamilton Sings! Community Choir, where she lead a non-audition choir through song and harmony. They have designed music programming for community support organizations geared toward adults with disabilities, as well as teamed up with the Canadian Mental Health Organization on numerous occasions to deliver workshops on music and mental wellness. With her background of study in Musical Theatre and attention to community building, they have been developing group somatic voice curriculum for singing and speaking. They lead a monthly singalong and also offer restorative yoga + sound immersion live music experiences. She is very keen to continue exploring their practice of collective healing through sound, song and story.
